great rhythm - makes me wanna dance and snip my fingers ;)

  • King of the Road (Rufus Wainwright & Teddy Thompson)
as heard in the motion picture 'Brokeback Mountain'
  • Hot Rod Lincoln (Kentucky Headhunters)

  • Gas Money (Jan & Arnie)
  • Rocket '88 (Jackie Brenston)
  • Hey Little Cobra (Rip Chords)

  • The Sunshine Drive (The Spazzys)
  • Heaven's In The Back Seat Of My Cadillac (Stereo Total)
  • Du und Dein Automobil (Stereo Total)
  • Hit the Road Jack (Ray Charles)
I'm tempted to add "Autofahrn im Mondschein" by Gerhard Schöne but am not sure if this is too cheesy and too... well... too "liedermacher" or "songwriter" like ;) What do u think? Does anyone of u even know him??

last.fm

hey - i discovered a real cool website: last.fm
it's great for networking with other music loonies ... of course i immediately designed a profile, which u find here or at the top of my page ;) it's the nice green monster that also tells u my current favourite songs *g*
okay - now you can visit me if u want...

Lazylazylazy ...

I'm back in Brighton and am soooooo LAZY :) i love it! and i'm workin on a "Lazy Compilation" since ages. but i'm stuck... so who can help me please??? here is what i already have:

Nobody Likes Us (Electrocute)
'cause we're two lazy chicks... ;)

Life Of Leisure (Luscious Jackson)
hmm. not sure about this one. technically the lyrics are - believe it or not - against a life of leisure!
"why you wanna waste away? lover of the life of leisure, lover of the life of leisure...
i love to love you but i might leave you"
but the song is so beautiful and sounds sooo lazy... and whoever is listening to the lyrics: there's also this great line:
"i'm a lover of the life of leisure, if you don't like it you can leave it"
well... and i don't wanna discuss politics of gender at work here, no i don't! otherwise i might be tempted to listen more closely:
"tell me why a woman who loves a man who never gives her all he can,
he sleeps all day and scams all night thinkin his service makes it alright
ladies wanting the service, me always give them the service"
maybe grrls should just adopt this strategy... what brings us to the next song ;)

Lazy (Freezepop)

that's right... wonderful appropriation ;)
not a cover of the marilyn song below!

Lazy (Marilyn Monroe)
and another one :)

suppose that song gets right to the point of this compilation - nobody ever said, i mean: sang it better (or more sexy :)

Too Lazy to Work, Too Nervous to Steal (BR5-49)
the song's not as fabulous as the title. it starts great:
"Well I met you in the middle of a bar room fight, In a cheap hotel on the Missouri side"
cool :) but then:
"I had you out in my car in the parking lot"
what the fuck?! did these guys ever hear of respect? i suppose she had him but he's not 'man enough' to admit it ;)
alltogether the song tells a similar story as the luscious jackson one but from the man's perspective. in my eyes it doesn't make him look much better ;) but there's another strinking difference: the chick's stone cool! first she tells him:
"There's only one thing you got wrong with you, It ain't the whole world looking at you
Why don't you find yourself a life that's real, Too lazy to work, too nervous to steal"
in the end she puts him in a bus out of the city to get rid of him *g*

Sunny Afternoon (The Kinks)
mmmmm :) puts me in a relaxed and happy mood everytime i listen *g* but then... did i ever really listen? more battles on the gender front ;)
"Save me, save me, save me from this squeeze. I got a big fat mama trying to break me.
And I love to live so pleasantly, Live this life of luxury, Lazing on a sunny afternoon."
How does it come that i can't decide if i'm with or against him? well if it was a girl singing... could it be i hav negative prejudices against men?? me?! ;) okay, lets jump to the next strophe:
"My girlfriends run off with my car, And gone back to her ma and pa,
Telling tales of drunkenness and cruelty."
one's tempted to think: that bitch, that liar... but then:
"Now Im sitting here, Sipping at my ice cold beer,
Lazing on a sunny afternoon."
oh well...

All The Lazy Dykes (Morrissey)

not sure if the song is about lazyness at all, but the lyrics are sooo cute! :) and with this song i finally have a positive example for a male artist ;)
"All the lazy dykes, Cross armed at the palms, Then legs astride their bikes,
Indigo burns on their arms.
One sweet day, An emotional whirl, You will be good to yourself, And you'll come and join the girls
...
Free yourself, Be yourself, Come to the Palms and see yourself
And at last your life begins, At last your life begins"

Counting Flowers On The Wall (Statler Brothers)
as heard in pulp fiction, yes, a great song, even though i could do with another version (4 a change) ...any suggestions?

Lazy Sunday Afternoon (Small Faces)

well, not much to say... another classic, listened 2 a hundred times and i still love it ;) and this time it's not sexist in any way, not even covered as i think :) it's such a cute and innocent song!
"Wouldn't it be nice to get on with me neighbors, But they make it very clear they've got no room for ravers
They stop me from groovin, they bang on me wall, They're doin me crust in it's no good at all,
Lazy sunday afternoon, I've got no mind to worry, close my eyes and Drift away"
and besides that: WHAT A SEXY ENGLISH ACCENT! MAKES ME WEAK IN THE KNEES - blur or suede couldn't do it better :)

Lazy (Suede)

talking 'bout suede... that song's very much what i was looking for! don't just sing about being lazy, that's something everybody can do in holidays ... but i want songs which express disdain 4 the system *g* 4 work itself :)
"Here they come gone 7am, getting satellite and Sky getting cable,
Bills and Bens and their mums and their friends, who just really, really want to be loved
...
But you and me, all we want to be is lazy, you and me, so lazy..."

Those Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer (Nat King Cole)
actually, i'm not quite sure if i like the song or if it annoys me ;) but it goes so well with this mix!
but now that i started analysing sexism... (note to myself: neverever do it again! it spoils the fun and in the end the mix-cd is half empty! on the other hand: at least half of my songs survive this analysis - other people's mixes will prove to be shit from the start to the end, completely ;)
what should i think 'bout that line?
"And on the beach youll see the girls in their bikinis, As cute as ever but they never get em wet"
I decided to read it as nothing worse than an unimaginative male perspective which represents itself as universal...

Lazy Calm (Cocteau Twins)
this song's a bit odd in the list, but it's beautiful (as every single cocteau twins song) and the mood goes so well with lazy (summer) mood..

lazy dwarf on vacation ;)

Lonesome Me!

i started to form a compilation with songs about loneliness. please post me all your pathetic, self-pity filled favourites - i want it to be reallyreally GROSS! ;)
so far i decided 4 these tiny pearls :)
  1. Are you lonesome tonite (Elvis Presley)
i found a really great version, where elvis laughs all the time and admits he has no contenance... :-D
  2. bye bye love (lacy j. dalton & eddie rabbit)
  3. Hunger (Stereo Total)
self-ironic, deadly serious, bierernst, and cute, adorable, and fuming :)
  4. I Already Miss You (Like You're Already Gone) (Patty Loveless)
sigh...... i'm melting, every single time i listen :(
  5. Lonely (Scream Club)
amazing sample of crazy for feelings
  6. Lover Lover Lover (Leonard Cohen)
  7. Lover, come back to me (Dinah Shore)
    not a cohen cover!
  8. Mr Lonely (Bobby Vinton)
attention! this is my very favourit - i never listen to a song with more whining self-pity! ohmygod... "i'm mr. lonely, i have nobody for my own, i'm so lonely, i'm mr. lonely, wish i had someone to call on the phone, now i'm a soldier, a lonely soldier, away from home......letters, never a letter, i get no letters, i've been forgotten......
    yeah!

  9. Oh Lonesome Me (Wanda Jackson)
a appeal to go out more often an have fun! (probably written by anne *g*)
  10. Please dont stop loving me (Wanda Jackson)
okay, here's another favourite - i can't help it, i'm incurably.. what's the word? romantic? tut!
  11. Where Are You Now (Jackie Trent)
yesyes! the only thing that's better than wallowing in self pity is to reproach it to someone else!!! hmmm! i know quite a few people who're experts in that ;) but nobody's as good a my mom! that's not personel - i think it's a mom-invention, the big, invisible women's conspiracy to rule the world by making every single human feeling guilty and responsible!
by the way: it's not so hidden actually - just watch some episodes of Roesanne! :-D

Wimin Negotiate Freedom

  • Champagne Taste (Eartha Kitt)
let's get this straight: women aren't capitalist pigs when they demand money from their lovers - that's called appropriation of male privileges! ;)
  • Chains (The Cookies)
self-awareness is the first step, you know :) ...
  • I'm Gonna Run Away From You (Tami Lynn)
    ... this is the second ;) ...
  • Party Girl (Bernadette Carroll)
    ... and that's the third :-P
  • Hot Dog! That Made Him Mad (Wanda Jackson)
  • Nothing But A Heartache (Flirtations)
  • You Don't Own Me (Patty Duke)
  • Chains (Patty Loveless)
  • The Pill (Loretta Lynn)
she also made another great song about the anti-baby pill: check out "One's on the way"!
  • Your Good Girl's Gonna Go Bad (Tammy Wynette)
    if you can't beat'em - join them :)
  • I Ain't Coming Back (The Orlons)
    once and for all.
  • Who's Sorry Now (Connie Francis)
  • Mama Said There'd Be Days Like This (The Shirelles)
  • You're No Good For Me (Dorie Sudduth)
  • Watchout 'Cause He's a Playboy (Bernadette Carroll)
  • This world today is a mess (Donna Hightower)
  • Rubber Dolly (The Clapping Song) (Shirley Ellis)
  • My Boyfriend Got a Beatle Haircut (Donna Lynn)
...now i can't chase the girls away - so to make him true: i got a beatle haircut too! :)
  • Don't Just Stand There (Patty Duke)
know what you want - and then get it!
  • Please Release Me (Kitty Wells)
  • I'm a Tiger (Lulu)
  • Too old to cut the mustard (Marlene Dietrich & Rosemary Clooney)
does anybody know if this is really a marlene song?? to me it sounds more like marilyn...
  • Dinah Shore: Don't Fence Me In
  • Connie Francis: Robot Man
Mmm, we'd have a steady date - Seven nights a week - And we would never fight - 'Cause it would be impossible for him to speak... ;)
  • Bessie Smith: I Used To Be Yor Sweet Mama
  • Alberta Hunter: I've Got A Mind To Ramble
  • Gitte: So schön kann doch kein Mann sein
  • Gitte: Ich will alles!
  • Holly Golightly: Dear John
  • Missy Elliott: Ain't That Funny
    finally: some hip hop :)
I remember when your ass was broke, So in love with me You were always at home always talkin bout' "Loan me this Loan me that now gimmie gimmie"
    ... but ...
When your man get money, You can't find him ... Where he at when you need him? (He's out duckin' you)
  • The Pipettes: Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me
Boy, get out of my face I'm gonna catch a chase some other guy who I might like You better hear me clear I want you out of here Don't send me wild
    ;)
  • South Pacific Original Broadway Cast: I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair
  • Ray Charles: Hit the Road Jack
It's labelled a Ray Charles song but really it's borne by this great female background singer - and even if ray says things like:
Woah Woman, oh woman, don't treat me so mean, You're the meanest old woman that I've ever seen.
it doesn't matter cause she's all so cool answering:
    That's right!
and goes on and kicks him out:
you ain't got no money and you just ain't no good
and he has nothing left to say but:
Well, I guess if you said so, I'd have to pack my things and go.
  • Reba McEntire: You're No Good
Well, i admit: The part when she wants to go back to her ex and beg him on bended knees 4 his forgiveness... arrrgh... i don't like it ;) but all the same, when she's singing:
You're no good...baby you're no good I'm gonna say it again You're no good, you're no good
That's appropriation of language! :) And as Scream Club say (in a slightly different context): We're not gonna sit and be quiet anymore! (Don't Mess With My Babies)
